Why filler planning matters more than the product

Seoul offers almost every filler brand available internationally, and choosing a clinic by product name alone misses the point. The same gel can look natural or heavy depending on where it is placed, at what depth and how much is used. For background on how gels behave, read how fillers work; for the most common pitfall, see avoiding the overfilled look.

Dr. Byun Jeik's filler work has been recognised in the field: he received the Merz Golden Record Award 2023 (Belotero, 2nd runner-up) and was a winner at the 9th Merz Golden Record Award Asia-Pacific, demonstrated at the 2024 Juvederm MD Codes event, filmed a Belotero Expert training video and was named one of Korea's "22 filler experts" by Medical Times. These reflect peer recognition of technique — your own plan still begins with an individual assessment.

The filler options, explained

Soft filler

Soft filler uses flexible HA gels that blend into thin or mobile areas: under-eye hollows, marionette lines and fine folds. The aim is smoothness without visible product.

Structural filler

Structural filler uses firmer gels placed deep to restore support and projection — the cheek and mid-face, temples, chin and jawline. Retaining-ligament filler reinforces key anchor points so the tissue above sits higher, often softening nasolabial folds indirectly.

Brands: Belotero and Juvederm

Belotero and Juvederm are both established hyaluronic acid filler families with gels of different firmness. The choice depends on the area and tissue rather than loyalty to one brand — see Belotero vs Juvederm.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a calcium-based filler used for support and collagen stimulation, often in the lower face and jawline. Unlike HA, it cannot be dissolved, so placement is especially careful. Compare in Radiesse vs HA filler.

Matching filler to your concern

Concern Common filler approach Also consider
Mid-face volume loss Structural and ligament filler Mid-face thread lift if tissue has descended
Nasolabial folds Ligament support first, then soft refinement Mid-Face Program
Marionette lines Marionette soft filler Marionette Program
Under-eye hollows Conservative soft filler Eye Rejuran for thin skin; Eye Program
Hollow temples Structural filler Collagen boosters for skin quality
Undefined jawline Structural filler or Radiesse Jawline Program

When filler is not the answer

Filler adds volume and support; it does not tighten loose skin or relax muscles. Where sagging dominates, threads or energy devices usually come first (thread lift vs filler). Where lines come from movement, Botox is often the first step (Botox vs filler). Where the issue is skin quality rather than volume, collagen or skin boosters may suit better (collagen booster vs filler). Doje combines these only as far as needed.

What to expect at Doje Clinic

  1. 1:1 consultation with Dr. Byun Jeik: structure, skin thickness, previous filler and goals.
  2. Plan: areas, product types and a conservative first amount.
  3. Treatment with numbing; needle or cannula chosen by area.
  4. Review once swelling has settled, typically two to four weeks later, if you are still in Seoul or by photo.
  5. Aftercare: avoid pressure, heat and heavy exercise for the advised period — see filler aftercare.

Safety in brief

Bruising and swelling are common; rare risks include vascular complications, which need immediate care. Anatomy-led placement, cautious technique and the reversibility of HA are key safeguards. See safety and side effects.

Cost

Filler is quoted after the consultation based on product type, number of areas and amount. Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan; ask for a written quote.

Frequently asked questions

Which filler is used for under-eye hollows?

A soft, flexible hyaluronic acid filler is typically used in small amounts, sometimes alongside skin treatments for thin under-eye skin.

What is the difference between soft and structural filler?

Soft filler blends into thin, mobile areas, while structural filler is firmer and placed deep to restore support and projection.

Is Belotero or Juvederm better?

Neither is universally better; each brand has gels of different firmness, and the choice depends on the area and tissue.

Can filler be dissolved?

Hyaluronic acid filler can usually be dissolved with hyaluronidase; Radiesse cannot be dissolved the same way.

How long does filler last?

It varies with product, area and metabolism, often from months to over a year.

Is there downtime after filler?

Usually minimal, although swelling or bruising may last a few days.

Who performs filler at Doje Clinic?
