What is nasolabial-fold filler?
The nasolabial fold — the line running from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth, called 팔자주름 in Korean — is one of the first places people notice facial ageing. It is not simply a wrinkle in the skin. The fold forms where the mobile cheek meets the firmer tissue around the mouth, and it deepens as mid-face fat compartments descend, the upper-jaw bone becomes less projecting and the skin gradually loses elasticity.
Nasolabial-fold filler uses a hyaluronic acid gel to restore support at this junction. Depending on your anatomy, the gel may be placed deep near the base of the nose (the pyriform area) to lift the upper part of the fold, or more superficially along the crease to soften a fine, etched line. HA fillers are broken down gradually by the body and, if ever needed, can usually be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
How Doje Clinic approaches smile lines
A common mistake is to fill the fold directly when the real problem sits above it. If the cheek has slipped downward, adding product into the line can make the lower mid-face look heavier and the smile less natural. At Doje Clinic, Dr. Byun Jeik first works out why the fold is deep: descent, volume loss, skin quality or a combination of all three.
That is why nasolabial-line filler sits inside the Mid-Face Program alongside the Doje signature mid-face thread lift and retaining-ligament filler. When the cheek is supported first, the amount of filler needed in the fold itself is often smaller, and the result moves more naturally when you talk and smile. Where the fold is mainly a volume issue, a direct, conservative correction can be enough on its own.
Dr. Byun was named among Korea's 22 filler experts by Medical Times, and every plan is designed in a 1:1 consultation rather than taken from a fixed protocol.

Two faces, same treatment, different results.
The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.
Who it suits — and who it doesn't
- Good fit: folds visible at rest that deepen with fatigue, with the cheek still reasonably well positioned.
- Good fit: people who have already had lifting and want a finishing refinement.
- Usually addressed elsewhere first: marked cheek sagging, where a mid-face thread lift typically comes before any fold filler.
- Postpone: pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection or cold sores near the area, or recent dental work, until cleared at consultation.
What to expect step by step
- Consultation: Dr. Byun assesses the fold at rest and when you smile, along with cheek position and skin thickness.
- Skin data: Mark-View 3D analysis can be added when skin quality is part of the question.
- Plan: you agree which layers will be treated and in what order — support first, refinement second.
- Treatment: topical numbing, then placement with a needle or cannula as the anatomy requires; the result is checked with you sitting upright.
- Aftercare: written instructions and a direct line to the clinic via WhatsApp, KakaoTalk or LINE.
Recovery and aftercare
Most people return to normal activity the same day. Mild swelling around the mouth, tenderness when chewing and the occasional small bruise are typical in the first days. For roughly 24–48 hours, avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol, and do not massage the area unless instructed. The settled result is usually judged after about two weeks. See the filler aftercare guide for a day-by-day checklist.
How long does it last?
Longevity depends on the product, the depth of placement and your own metabolism. The area around the mouth moves constantly, so correction here often lasts less long than in static zones; many people plan a review somewhere between six and twelve months. Rather than topping up automatically, Doje reassesses whether the fold still needs filler or whether support elsewhere would serve you better.
Cost
Cost is quoted after your 1:1 consultation, because it depends on whether the fold is treated alone or within the Mid-Face Program, which product is chosen and how much is required. Aesthetic treatments in Korea are non-covered (비급여) services with fees set per plan, so ask for a written quote before you decide.

Frequently asked questions
Will nasolabial filler make my face look puffy?
Not when the amount and depth are matched to the cause. Doje often supports the cheek first so less product is needed in the fold itself.
Is filler or a thread lift better for smile lines?
Filler suits folds driven by volume loss; a thread lift suits folds driven by cheek descent. Many faces need a mix, decided at consultation.
Does nasolabial-fold filler hurt?
Most people feel mild pressure or stinging. Topical numbing and lidocaine-containing gels usually keep it comfortable.
Can nasolabial filler be reversed?
Hyaluronic acid filler can usually be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed, which is one reason it is preferred around the mouth.
Can I fly home soon after treatment?
Usually yes, within a day or two. Swelling can increase slightly on a flight, so plan a buffer and follow your aftercare sheet.
