Retaining-Ligament Filler in Cheongdam & Apgujeong, Seoul

Retaining-ligament filler places small, precise amounts of filler at the points where the face's supporting ligaments anchor soft tissue, reinforcing the mid-face so that cheeks sit higher and shadows soften. At Doje Clinic in Apgujeong, near Cheongdam, Seoul, it is a core item of the Mid-Face Program, designed by Dr. Byun Jeik alongside the signature thread lift.

What is retaining-ligament filler?

The soft tissues of the face are held in place by a series of fibrous retaining ligaments that run from bone, or from deep fascia, up to the skin. They act like the anchoring points of a tent: while they are strong, the canvas sits smoothly; as they loosen with age, the tissue between them sags and the anchor points themselves show as grooves or shadows.

In the mid-face, this produces familiar changes: a visible line between the lower eyelid and cheek, a flattening of the front of the cheek, and tissue sliding towards the nasolabial fold. Retaining-ligament filler aims to reinforce support at those anchor areas with small, precisely placed amounts of product. Done well, the result is not a fuller face but a better-supported one, with smoother transitions and less shadowing.

How Doje Clinic approaches ligament support

Retaining-ligament filler is one of the three core items in Doje's Mid-Face Program, and it is designed together with the other two rather than in isolation:

  • Signature mid-face thread lift – repositions descended cheek tissue upward.
  • Retaining-ligament filler – gives that repositioned tissue a supported base to sit on.
  • Nasolabial-line filler – softens any remaining depth of the smile line, typically with less product because the cause above has been treated.

Dr. Byun Jeik, whose filler work has been recognised by Medical Times among Korea's "22 filler experts" and through the Merz Golden Record Awards, plans placement according to each person's anatomy. The emphasis is on small volumes at the correct depth; adding more product at a ligament area does not mean better support and can quickly look heavy.

Two faces, same treatment, different results.

The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.

Who it suits — and who it doesn't

  • Suits early to moderate mid-face ageing: a visible lid–cheek line, flatter cheek and deepening smile lines.
  • Suits people who want their cheek supported rather than enlarged.
  • Suits patients having a mid-face thread lift who need a stable foundation for the result.
  • Less suitable alone when there is marked descent; lifting is usually needed first.
  • Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection, or with certain autoimmune or bleeding conditions; previous filler in the area is reviewed at consultation.

What to expect, step by step

  1. Consultation: the mid-face is assessed upright, at rest and when smiling, to locate the support areas that need help.
  2. Plan: filler points mapped together with any thread-lift vectors and nasolabial filler.
  3. Preparation: cleansing and numbing; local anaesthetic within the product.
  4. Treatment: where a thread lift is included, threads are usually placed first, then ligament support is added and refined.
  5. Review: balance and symmetry are checked after swelling settles.

Recovery and aftercare

Mild swelling and tenderness are common for a few days; if combined with a thread lift, recovery follows the longer thread-lift timeline. Bruising may occur and usually fades over one to two weeks. Avoid massaging or pressing the cheeks, sleeping face-down, saunas, alcohol and intense exercise in the first days. As with any filler, contact the clinic promptly about increasing pain, colour change or visual symptoms.

Cost

The fee depends on the amount of product and whether ligament filler is part of the full Mid-Face Program. It is quoted after the 1:1 consultation; ask for a written quote. Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan.

Frequently asked questions

What are retaining ligaments?

They are fibrous attachments that anchor facial soft tissue to deeper structures. As they loosen with age, tissue sags and grooves appear.

Will ligament filler make my cheeks bigger?

It is designed to support rather than enlarge, using small amounts at specific points for a smoother, better-supported mid-face.

Why combine it with a thread lift?

Threads reposition descended tissue, and ligament filler gives that tissue a supported base, which tends to look more natural.

How long does it last?

Longevity varies with the product, area and individual; deep support areas often hold relatively well.

Is it the same as nasolabial filler?

No. Nasolabial filler softens the fold itself, while ligament filler supports the tissue above it.
