Structural Filler in Cheongdam & Apgujeong, Seoul

Structural filler is a firmer filler placed deep, close to bone or along supporting ligaments, to rebuild the face's framework and projection rather than simply fill lines. At Doje Clinic in Apgujeong, beside Cheongdam, Seoul, Dr. Byun Jeik uses structural filler for areas such as the chin, cheekbones, temples and jaw where support has been lost.

What is structural filler?

The face ages from the inside out. Bone gradually remodels, fat compartments deflate and the ligaments that anchor soft tissue loosen. The skin then drapes over a framework that is smaller and less supportive than it once was. Lines and folds are often the result of this loss of structure rather than the problem in themselves.

Structural filler is designed to address that underlying framework. It is firmer and more cohesive than soft filler, so it holds its shape under pressure and can project or support tissue above it. Placed deep, near bone or at key support points, a small amount can restore definition to the chin, re-establish a cheek contour or strengthen the jaw line, which in turn softens folds and shadows elsewhere.

How Doje Clinic approaches structural filler

Dr. Byun Jeik has been recognised as one of Korea's "22 filler experts" by Medical Times, demonstrated at the 2024 Juvederm MD Codes event and serves on the Belotero Expert Committee. His approach to structural filler is anatomy-led:

  • Support first – restoring the framework often reduces the amount of filler needed in superficial lines, which helps avoid an overfilled look.
  • Proportion – chin projection, cheek width and jaw definition are balanced against each other and against your features, not to a universal template.
  • Right product, right layer – firm product deep for support, soft product superficially where the skin is thin; the two are not interchangeable.
  • Lifting where needed – if tissue has descended, a Doje signature thread lift may come first so filler supports rather than weighs down.

Two faces, same treatment, different results.

The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.

Who it suits — and who it doesn't

  • Suits a recessed or short chin that makes the lower face look less defined.
  • Suits flattened cheekbones or a mid-face that has lost projection.
  • Suits people who have repeatedly filled lines without lasting improvement because the support beneath was not addressed.
  • Not suitable for thin, mobile areas such as under the eyes or lips, where soft filler is preferred.
  • Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection, or with certain autoimmune or bleeding conditions; prior permanent filler is discussed at consultation.

What to expect, step by step

  1. Consultation: assessment of facial proportions from the front, side and three-quarter view.
  2. Plan: support points chosen, with an estimate of product and whether lifting or soft filler should be combined.
  3. Preparation: cleansing and numbing; most products contain local anaesthetic.
  4. Injection: deep placement by needle or cannula, assessed in an upright position.
  5. Review: a check after about two weeks to confirm balance once swelling has settled.

Recovery and aftercare

Some swelling, firmness and tenderness are common for a few days, particularly at the chin and jaw. Bruising, if it occurs, usually fades over one to two weeks. Avoid pressing or massaging the area unless instructed, sleeping face-down, saunas, alcohol and strenuous exercise for the first day or two. As with any filler, contact the clinic immediately if you notice increasing pain, skin colour change or visual disturbance.

Cost

The fee depends on the number of areas, the amount of product and whether structural filler is combined with other treatment. It is quoted after the 1:1 consultation; ask for a written quote. Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is structural filler used for?

It rebuilds support and projection in areas such as the chin, cheekbones, jaw and temples, rather than simply filling lines.

Why not just fill the lines directly?

Many lines result from lost support. Restoring structure often softens them with less product and a more natural look.

Is structural filler hyaluronic acid?

Most structural fillers are firmer hyaluronic acid formulations; biostimulators such as Radiesse may also be used for support.

How long does it last?

Longevity varies by product, area and individual, and deep, less mobile areas often hold longer.

Can it be combined with a thread lift?

Yes. Lifting descended tissue first and then supporting the framework is a common Doje approach.
