Soft filler is a flexible hyaluronic acid filler used in delicate, mobile areas such as under the eyes, the marionette region and fine hollows, where firmer products can look stiff or lumpy. At Doje Clinic in Apgujeong, near Cheongdam, Seoul, Dr. Byun Jeik uses soft filler conservatively within the Eye and Marionette Programs and as a single treatment.

What is soft filler?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are not all alike. They differ in how firm they are, how much they hold their shape and how much they spread and move with the tissue. Structural fillers are firmer and designed to project and support, for example on the chin or cheekbone. Soft fillers are more flexible and integrate smoothly into thin, mobile tissue.

That makes soft filler the appropriate choice where the skin is thin or the area moves constantly: under the eyes, where firm product can show as a bump or a bluish tint; around the mouth corners, which move every time you speak and eat; and in small hollows where the goal is a smooth transition rather than added shape. Choosing the right firmness for each area is one of the main differences between a natural result and an obviously filled one.

How Doje Clinic approaches soft filler

Dr. Byun Jeik was named by Medical Times as one of Korea's "22 filler experts" and sits on the Belotero Expert Committee. At Doje, soft filler is used with three principles:

  • Cause before product – if a hollow is caused by sagging above it, lifting may come first; filling under a descended cheek or brow can make an area look heavier.
  • Small amounts, precise layers – soft filler is placed in conservative volumes at the correct depth, often by cannula in delicate areas, to reduce bruising and irregularity.
  • Right product for each zone – one face may need soft filler under the eyes and a structural product on the chin; the two are not interchangeable.

In the Eye Program, soft filler provides the volume axis alongside lifting and skin care. In the Marionette Program, marionette soft filler supports the hollow beneath the mouth corners once the lower face has been lifted.

Two faces, same treatment, different results.

The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.

Who it suits — and who it doesn't

  • Suits mild to moderate under-eye hollows and tear-trough shadows with reasonable skin quality.
  • Suits hollowing beneath the mouth corners and fine perioral volume loss.
  • Suits people who want subtle refinement rather than visible shape change.
  • Less suitable for prominent fat-type eye bags, very thin or crepey under-eye skin, or areas needing strong projection.
  • Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection or cold sores near the area, or with certain autoimmune conditions; previous filler is discussed at consultation.

What to expect, step by step

  1. Consultation: the area is examined in upright light to see shadows and hollows as others see them.
  2. Plan: soft filler alone or with lifting, skin boosters or structural filler elsewhere.
  3. Preparation: cleansing, numbing cream; most products contain local anaesthetic.
  4. Injection: small, precise amounts by fine needle or cannula, checked as you sit upright.
  5. Review: a check after about two weeks, when swelling has settled, to judge whether any refinement is needed.

Recovery and aftercare

Mild swelling is common for a few days; around the eyes it may be more noticeable in the morning. Bruising is possible and usually fades within one to two weeks. Avoid pressing or massaging the area, saunas, alcohol and strenuous exercise for the first day or two, and sleep with your head slightly raised. Contact the clinic immediately if you notice increasing pain, skin colour change or any visual change, as with any filler.

Cost

The fee depends on the area and amount of product, and on whether soft filler is part of a wider program. It is quoted after the 1:1 consultation; ask for a written quote. Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between soft and structural filler?

Soft filler is flexible and blends into thin, mobile areas; structural filler is firmer and designed for projection and support.

Is soft filler safe under the eyes?

Every filler carries risks, and the eye area needs particular care. Doje uses small amounts at precise depth, often by cannula.

How long does soft filler last?

Longevity varies with the product, area and individual metabolism; mobile areas may need maintenance sooner.

Can soft filler be dissolved?

HA soft fillers can generally be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed.

Will I look overfilled?

The aim is subtle correction with conservative volumes; any refinement is judged after swelling settles.
