Muscle versus skin
Both treatments use botulinum toxin, so the difference lies in where it is placed and why. Standard Botox is injected into a muscle at a concentration designed to reduce that muscle's activity. The visible effect is fewer expression lines or, for a strong masseter, a slimmer lower face over the following weeks.
Skin Botox, sometimes called micro-Botox, distributes a diluted solution across the skin in many shallow injection points. At this depth the aim is not to stop expression. Instead, effects on the tiny muscle fibres within the skin and on sweat and oil glands are thought to explain why many people notice smaller-looking pores, less shine, a smoother texture and a slightly tauter jaw-neck outline. Because the dose is spread thinly, expression is preserved when it is performed well.
How Doje Clinic uses each
At Doje both are listed as single treatments and are frequently used as part of larger plans. Standard Botox is used conservatively for dynamic lines and for structural goals such as jaw Botox. Skin Botox is considered for texture and oil control, often alongside pore and texture care such as Potenza or exosome-based treatments, or before an event when skin needs to look refined without downtime. Dr. Byun Jeik maps injection points to the specific concern in a 1:1 consultation.

When Doje combines them
Many faces benefit from both in the same visit, in different areas. A common example: standard Botox for frown lines and jaw muscle, with Skin Botox across the cheeks for pores and shine, or along the lower face and neck for a cleaner outline. The total dose and placement are planned together, so the face looks refreshed rather than stiff. Skin Botox also fits well before a wedding or event; see the Wedding Program and before-an-event timeline.
Which should you choose?
- Botox — if the lines you dislike appear when you frown, squint or raise your brows, or your jaw muscle is prominent.
- Skin Botox — if pores, oiliness or fine texture bother you more than expression lines.
- Both — if you have dynamic lines and texture concerns.
- Something else — if pores are linked to sagging or scarring; see enlarged pores.
Recovery and aftercare
Avoid rubbing or massaging injected areas and lying flat for a few hours. Small bumps from Skin Botox usually settle the same day. See Botox aftercare.
Cost
Fees are quoted after a 1:1 consultation because areas and doses vary. Ask for a written quote; Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan.

Frequently asked questions
Is Skin Botox the same medicine as Botox?
It uses the same class of medicine, but diluted and placed superficially in the skin instead of into muscle.
Will Skin Botox freeze my face?
When performed well it usually preserves expression, because the dose is spread thinly in the skin rather than concentrated in muscle.
Does Skin Botox shrink pores?
Many people notice pores look smaller and skin less oily. Results vary and pores linked to sagging or scarring may need other care.
Can I have both on the same day?
Yes. Doje often plans muscle Botox and Skin Botox together for different areas.
How long does Skin Botox last?
It is often shorter-lasting than muscle Botox and varies by person and area.
