Jaw (Masseter) Botox in Cheongdam & Apgujeong, Seoul

Jaw (masseter) Botox relaxes an enlarged chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw, which can gradually slim a square-looking lower face over several weeks. At Doje Clinic in Apgujeong, beside Cheongdam, Seoul, Dr. Byun Jeik first checks whether the width comes from muscle, fat, bone or sagging, and relates the plan to the Jawline Program where needed.

What is jaw (masseter) Botox?

The masseter is the strong muscle you can feel at the back of your jaw when you clench your teeth. In some people it is naturally large, and in others it has enlarged through habits such as clenching, grinding or frequent gum-chewing. A bulky masseter widens the lower face at the jaw angle and can make the face look square or heavy in the lower third.

Injecting botulinum toxin (턱보톡스 is the familiar Korean term) into the masseter reduces how strongly it contracts. Over the following weeks, a muscle that is used less becomes smaller, and the lower face can look softer and more tapered. Because the change comes from muscle reduction, it is gradual rather than instant.

How Doje Clinic approaches the jaw

Not every wide lower face is a muscle problem, and treating the wrong cause leads to disappointment. Dr. Byun Jeik assesses the jaw while you are relaxed and while you clench, feeling the muscle and examining the tissue above and below the jaw line.

  • Muscle – a firm bulge that hardens on clenching suggests masseter Botox will help.
  • Fat or sagging – fullness from jowls or under-chin fat will not change with Botox. The Jawline Program, with a lower-face thread lift, double-chin liposuction or ONDA, may be more appropriate.
  • Bone – a wide jaw from bony structure cannot be changed by injections; this is explained honestly.
  • Age and laxity – in people with early sagging, reducing muscle bulk too much can make the lower face look looser. Doses are adjusted, or lifting is considered alongside.

Two faces, same treatment, different results.

The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.

Who it suits — and who it doesn't

  • Suits a square jaw caused mainly by a prominent masseter muscle.
  • Suits people who clench or grind their teeth (Botox may also reduce muscle tension; dental assessment for grinding is still advisable).
  • Suits those wanting gradual, natural-looking facial slimming without surgery.
  • Not effective when width is due to fat, sagging or bone.
  • Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, or with infection at the injection site; some medications are reviewed at consultation.

What to expect, step by step

  1. Consultation: palpation of the masseter at rest and on clenching; discussion of habits such as grinding.
  2. Plan: dose and injection points for each side, accounting for any asymmetry.
  3. Treatment: a few injections into the muscle on each side.
  4. Early weeks: chewing tough food may feel slightly tiring as the muscle relaxes.
  5. Review: the contour change is assessed after several weeks.

Recovery and aftercare

You can return to normal activities straight away. Mild tenderness at injection points and occasional small bruises are possible. Avoid massaging the jaw for the rest of the day, and skip saunas and strenuous exercise until the next day. In the first weeks, some people notice that chewing hard or chewy foods tires the jaw more quickly; this usually eases. Slimming becomes visible gradually, typically over about four to eight weeks, and many people repeat treatment periodically to maintain it.

Cost

The fee depends on the dose needed for your muscle size and whether jaw Botox is combined with other contouring. It is quoted after the 1:1 consultation; ask for a written quote. Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan.

Frequently asked questions

How long until I see a slimmer jaw?

The change is gradual, typically appearing over about four to eight weeks as the muscle becomes smaller.

How long does jaw Botox last?

Usually several months, varying with muscle strength and habits; repeated treatment can maintain the effect.

Will it affect my chewing?

Normal eating is preserved, though hard or chewy foods may tire the jaw more easily for a few weeks.

Can jaw Botox fix jowls?

No. Jowls are caused by sagging, which is addressed with lifting such as a lower-face thread lift.

Can it help with teeth grinding?

It may reduce masseter tension, but a dental assessment for grinding is still recommended.
