Why makeup and skincare need a short pause
Treated skin is temporarily more open and reactive. Needle points, microchannels from devices like Potenza, or small wounds after CO2 laser are routes for bacteria and irritants until they close. Brushes, sponges and fingertips also carry bacteria. Pressing or buffing makeup into recently injected areas can move filler or irritate thread entry points. A short pause lowers the risk of infection, irritation and pigment change.
This matters in Korea, where many people use multi-step routines (스킨케어 루틴) with active ingredients. Some of those steps should wait.
Typical timing by treatment
| Treatment | Makeup | Active skincare |
|---|---|---|
| Botox / Skin Botox | Usually from later the same day or the next day; avoid rubbing | Normal routine usually fine; no facial massage early on |
| Filler | Usually from the next day, applied lightly | Avoid massage, gua sha and pressure for the advised period |
| Skin boosters | Once bumps and pinpoint marks settle, often a day or so | Gentle routine for a few days |
| Thread lift | Avoid entry points until closed; light makeup elsewhere | No facial massage or devices for longer |
| Ultherapy Prime, Thermage, Softwave, ONDA | Often soon after if no irritation | Avoid strong actives for a few days |
| Helios toning | Usually the next day | Gentle routine; strict sunscreen |
| Potenza / exosome pumping | Once channels close, often a day or two | No actives until skin settles |
| CO2 laser | Not on wounds; wait until healed | Follow wound-care instructions |

Two faces, same treatment, different results.
The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.
What to pause, and for roughly how long
- Retinoids (retinol, tretinoin) and exfoliating acids (AHA, BHA, PHA) — usually paused for several days after lasers, needling and boosters.
- Scrubs, peeling pads and cleansing brushes — wait until the skin feels completely normal.
- Vitamin C serums — can sting on freshly treated skin; reintroduce once comfortable.
- Facial massage, gua sha and at-home beauty devices — avoid after filler and threads for the advised period.
- Sheet masks with fragrance or strong actives — choose plain, soothing versions or wait.
A simple post-treatment routine
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser; pat dry with a clean towel.
- Moisturise with a simple, fragrance-light product to support the skin barrier.
- Protect with a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning, reapplying outdoors; this matters especially after toning and lasers.
- Use clean tools when you restart makeup — fresh sponges and washed brushes.
- Choose lighter products at first, such as a tinted sunscreen or light concealer.
How Doje Clinic supports recovery
Doje's soothing and hydration menu — Aquapeel, Cryocell, O2Derm, Ulkin, LED and oxygen therapy — can be part of a plan to help skin settle; Rejuran is added selectively. These are chosen only as far as needed. See skin recovery care and, for redness, post-procedure redness.
Signs to stop and check
- Stinging, burning or a rash after reintroducing a product.
- Increasing redness, warmth or pus-like spots.
- Darkening patches after laser or heat.
Stop the product and contact the clinic with a photo.
