Key facts
| Why pause | Heat, exertion and alcohol widen blood vessels, increasing swelling and bruising |
|---|---|
| Shortest breaks | Botox, Skin Botox, skin boosters, energy-based lifting |
| Longer breaks | Thread lifts, liposuction, CO2 laser, needling with open channels |
| Heat includes | Sauna, jjimjilbang (찜질방), hot baths, hot yoga, steam rooms |
| Return gradually | Light walking first, then normal activity as advised |
| Your exact timing | Given by Dr. Byun Jeik for your plan |
Why these three matter
Most aesthetic treatments cause a small, controlled injury — a needle track, a thread pathway, heat in the deeper layers or microscopic channels in the skin. In the first days, the body responds with increased blood flow and fluid, which shows as swelling, redness and sometimes bruising. Anything that further widens blood vessels or raises blood pressure tends to amplify that response.
- Strenuous exercise raises heart rate and blood pressure and increases facial flushing; repetitive movement and sweating can also irritate fresh skin.
- Heat — saunas, steam rooms, Korean jjimjilbang, hot baths — dilates vessels for prolonged periods and may affect how some products settle.
- Alcohol dilates blood vessels, can increase bruising and fluid retention, and may interact with some medicines given after treatment.
Infection risk is another reason to avoid shared hot water, pools and steam rooms while needle sites or skin channels are still open.

Typical timing by treatment
| Treatment | Exercise | Sauna / heat | Alcohol |
|---|---|---|---|
| Botox | Usually avoid strenuous activity the same day | Avoid the same day | Ideally avoid the same day |
| Filler | Light activity; avoid strenuous exercise for a few days | Avoid for several days | Avoid for a day or two |
| Skin boosters | Avoid strenuous exercise for a day or so | Avoid for a few days | Avoid for a day or so |
| Thread lift | Avoid strenuous and high-movement exercise for longer, often around two weeks | Avoid for a longer period | Avoid in the first week where possible |
| Ultherapy Prime, Thermage, Softwave, ONDA | Usually resume within a day or so | Avoid for a few days | Limit for a day or two |
| Potenza / CO2 laser | Avoid heavy sweating until skin has closed | Avoid until skin has healed | Limit while skin is healing |
| Double-chin liposuction | Follow specific advice; gradual return | Avoid for longer | Avoid early on |
These are typical ranges; Dr. Byun Jeik may advise differently based on your treatment, amount and healing.
Returning to activity safely
- Start with walking. Gentle movement is usually fine and supports circulation.
- Add moderate exercise once swelling has eased, avoiding head-down positions after filler and threads.
- Return to intense training, contact sports and hot yoga last. After a thread lift, avoid wide mouth opening and facial strain too — see thread lift aftercare.
- Heat last of all. Saunas and jjimjilbang are usually the final things to resume.
Tips for visitors to Seoul
- A jjimjilbang visit and late-night Korean barbecue with soju are part of many trips; plan them before treatment rather than after.
- Hotel gyms and pools are tempting — check timing with the clinic first.
- Combine with flying after treatment advice, since long flights and alcohol together worsen puffiness.
How Doje Clinic tailors this advice
Because Doje combines treatments only as far as needed, aftercare is also specific to the plan rather than a generic sheet. A lighter plan — for example skin boosters with soothing care — usually means a quicker return to the gym and social life. A plan that includes a thread lift or liposuction means a longer pause from heat, intense exercise and alcohol. Dr. Byun Jeik explains these timings at the 1:1 consultation, so you can decide how to fit treatment around training schedules, holidays or events before you commit.
If you train regularly or have a sport-related event, mention it early; sometimes the order of treatments can be adjusted so the more restrictive step comes at a convenient time.
