Why skin turns red after treatment
Many aesthetic treatments work by creating a small, controlled injury that prompts the skin to repair itself. Laser energy, radiofrequency heat, microneedles and injections all trigger the same early response: blood vessels widen to bring repair cells to the area, so the skin looks pink or red, feels warm and may swell slightly. At the same time, the surface barrier is temporarily less effective, which makes skin feel tight or sensitive.
This response is expected and usually useful. How long it lasts depends on several factors:
- Type and depth of treatment. Gentle toning may cause redness for a few hours; RF microneedling or CO2 laser for lesions causes more, lasting days.
- Skin type. Fair, thin, sensitive or rosacea-prone skin tends to flush more and for longer.
- Combinations. Several treatments on the same day add up.
- Aftercare. Heat, alcohol, intense exercise, saunas, sun and strong skincare can prolong redness.
Normal versus not normal
Expected redness peaks early and improves day by day. Redness that worsens after the first couple of days, becomes increasingly painful, spreads, blisters, weeps or crusts heavily, or comes with fever may signal infection, a burn or an allergic reaction and needs prompt review. After filler, skin that turns pale, mottled or dusky, especially with increasing pain, needs urgent assessment by the treating doctor.
How Doje Clinic approaches recovery
At Doje Clinic, recovery is planned as part of treatment, not added afterwards. During the 1:1 consultation, Dr. Byun Jeik considers your skin’s sensitivity, upcoming events and travel when choosing treatments and settings. Energy devices are selected by need rather than stacked as a package, which also limits unnecessary inflammation. Mark-View 3D skin analysis can help identify reactive, barrier-compromised skin in advance.

Recovery options from mild to more intensive
- Home care basics. Cool (not icy) compresses, a gentle cleanser, a simple moisturiser and sunscreen. Pause retinoids, acids and scrubs until the skin settles.
- Soothing and hydration care. Doje’s supportive care menu — soothing care, hydration care, Cryocell, O2Derm, Ulkin and Aquapeel — is used as recovery care around main treatments.
- LED and oxygen therapy. LED light therapy and oxygen therapy are supportive recovery options; oxygen therapy is also built into the One-Day Program.
- Regenerative support. Exosome-based care may be combined with Potenza treatments to support recovery, as in Doje’s exosome + Potenza pumping.
Where Doje’s programs fit
The One-Day Program pairs the Doje Signature Thread Lift with autologous exosome and oxygen therapy so that lifting and skin recovery are designed within a single day — useful for travellers. Doje’s hydration and soothing line exists for exactly this kind of support. If you were treated somewhere else and feel your skin is slow to settle, contact the clinic that performed the procedure first; Doje can assess your skin and offer supportive care where appropriate.
When to seek other medical care
Signs of infection, a burn, a spreading rash or severe swelling need medical assessment promptly — by the treating doctor or, out of hours, an emergency department. Redness that persists for weeks, or frequent flushing that began after a procedure, may indicate a vascular or rosacea-type problem better assessed by a dermatologist.
What to expect
- Pre-treatment discussion of expected redness and your schedule.
- Treatment with settings adjusted to your skin.
- Immediate soothing care where planned.
- Written aftercare and a contact route for questions.
- Follow-up if redness is not improving as expected.
Cost
Recovery care is often built into a treatment plan; any additional care is quoted after consultation. Korean aesthetic fees are non-covered (비급여); ask for a written quote.
