What is Helios dual toning?
Laser toning (레이저 토닝) uses low-intensity laser energy passed evenly over the skin to break down excess pigment gradually, without the crusting or scabbing associated with stronger pigment lasers. Because each session is gentle, results build over a series, which makes toning well suited to diffuse, patchy pigmentation and to skin that reacts badly to aggressive treatment.
Helios is a laser platform that offers two wavelengths. The 1064 nm wavelength penetrates relatively deeply and is commonly used for toning in Asian skin types; the 785 nm wavelength is absorbed differently by pigment and can be used to target pigment at a different depth. Having both available lets the physician adapt treatment rather than relying on a single setting for every type of pigmentation.
How Doje Clinic approaches pigmentation
Pigmentation is not one condition. Freckles, sun spots, melasma, post-inflammatory marks and general dullness sit at different depths and respond differently — and some, especially melasma, can worsen if treated too aggressively. That is why Doje Clinic uses Helios 785/1064 dual toning as a base, then adjusts intensity and the number of sessions to the depth and pattern of your pigment rather than following a standard course.
Dr. Byun Jeik reviews the pigment under good lighting, often with Mark-View 3D data, which can help visualise pigment distribution. The plan then decides which wavelength to emphasise, how conservative to be, and whether supportive hydration and soothing care should be added to keep the skin barrier calm between sessions. For discrete raised lesions, a different tool such as CO2 laser may be more appropriate.

Two faces, same treatment, different results.
The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.
Who it suits — and who it doesn't
- Suits: uneven, blotchy tone and diffuse pigmentation.
- Suits: melasma-prone skin, using conservative settings and realistic expectations.
- Suits: people who want gradual brightening with little downtime.
- May need another tool: raised spots or benign growths, which are not toning targets.
- Postpone: recent tanning or sunburn, active inflammation, photosensitising medication, pregnancy.
What to expect step by step
- Consultation: Dr. Byun identifies pigment type, depth and pattern and discusses triggers such as sun and hormones.
- Skin data: Mark-View 3D can document pigment for later comparison.
- Plan: wavelength emphasis, intensity, number of sessions and spacing are set.
- Treatment: cleansing, eye protection and even laser passes; most people feel light snapping or warmth.
- Soothing: calming care where included and written aftercare.
Recovery and aftercare
Mild redness or warmth usually fades within hours, and make-up can often be worn the same or next day. The most important aftercare is sun protection: use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, reapply when outdoors and wear a hat in strong sun, because UV exposure can undo progress. Keep skin hydrated and avoid harsh exfoliants for several days. See laser aftercare.
Results timeline
Toning is gradual. Some people notice a brighter, more even tone after a few sessions, with further improvement across a series. Melasma in particular tends to need patience and ongoing maintenance, and can recur with sun, heat or hormonal change. Session numbers and intervals vary and are reviewed as you progress.
Cost
Cost depends on the number of sessions and whether toning is combined with other care, so it is quoted after a 1:1 consultation. Korean aesthetic fees are non-covered (비급여) and set per plan — ask for a written quote.

Frequently asked questions
What does dual toning mean?
It means the Helios laser offers two wavelengths, 785 nm and 1064 nm, so treatment can be adapted to pigment at different depths.
Can Helios toning treat melasma?
It is commonly used for melasma-prone skin with conservative settings, but melasma tends to need patience and maintenance and can recur.
How many toning sessions will I need?
It depends on pigment depth and pattern. Doje adjusts the number of sessions to your skin rather than using a fixed course.
Is there downtime after laser toning?
Usually minimal, with mild redness for a few hours. Strict sun protection afterwards is essential.
Can I have toning while visiting Seoul briefly?
A single session is possible, but toning works best as a series. Dr. Byun can advise on spacing that fits your travel.
