Potenza vs CO2 Laser — Cheongdam & Apgujeong, Seoul

Potenza is radiofrequency microneedling that heats the deeper skin through tiny needles with limited surface injury, while a CO2 laser is an ablative laser that vaporises tissue. At Doje Clinic in Cheongdam and Apgujeong, Seoul, Potenza is used for pores and texture and CO2 for targeted work; choice depends on goals and downtime.

Key facts

What they are Potenza: radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. CO2 laser: ablative 10,600 nm laser.
Main difference Potenza delivers heat below the surface through needles; CO2 removes or resurfaces tissue from the surface down.
How Doje uses them Potenza in Pores & Texture care, often with exosome; CO2 as a single treatment for targeted indications.
Downtime Potenza: redness, often a few days. CO2: crusting or redness that varies with depth and area.
Results timeline Gradual over weeks for texture; lesion removal is visible once healed.

What each device actually does

Potenza is a radiofrequency microneedling platform. Fine needles enter the skin to a chosen depth and release radiofrequency energy at the tips, heating the dermis to encourage remodelling while leaving most of the surface intact. Its pumping function also lets a solution, such as exosome care, be delivered as the needles work. At Doje it sits in the Pores & Texture category.

The CO2 laser (탄산가스 레이저) works at a wavelength strongly absorbed by water in the skin, so it vaporises tissue precisely. Used as a focused beam it can remove small benign skin lesions; used in a fractional pattern it creates columns of controlled injury for resurfacing. Because it removes tissue, healing typically involves crusting and a period of pink, sensitive skin.

How Doje Clinic chooses

Doje’s principle is to choose energy devices by depth and by the problem in front of the physician, not to apply every device as a package. With these two, the question is mostly: is the issue the quality of a whole area, or a specific spot?

  • For enlarged pores, uneven texture and shallow scarring across the cheeks, Potenza with or without exosome is usually the more practical tool, with modest downtime and a course of sessions.
  • For a defined lesion — for example a small benign growth — CO2 is a precise way to remove it, after the physician has assessed that it is appropriate to treat.
  • For more marked resurfacing goals, the trade-off between result and downtime is discussed openly in the 1:1 consultation with Dr. Byun Jeik.

A Mark-View 3D skin analysis can document pores and texture before and during a course, so progress is judged on data as well as appearance.

Potenza vs CO2 laser side by side

Potenza CO2 laser
Mechanism RF energy delivered through microneedles Ablative laser energy absorbed by water in tissue
Depth / target Adjustable dermal depth; surface largely spared From the surface down; depth set per indication
Suits Pores, texture, shallow scarring; skin quality Removing small benign lesions; resurfacing goals
Sessions Usually a series, spaced weeks apart; varies Often one session for a lesion; resurfacing varies
Downtime Redness and mild swelling, typically a few days Crusting and pinkness; typically one to two weeks or more, depending on depth
Onset Gradual over weeks as the skin remodels Lesion removal visible after healing; resurfacing is gradual
Pigment caution Lower surface injury; still needs sun care Post-inflammatory pigmentation risk needs careful aftercare

When Doje combines them

They answer different questions, so a single plan can include both — but rarely in the same zone on the same day. A common pattern is to remove a small lesion with CO2 and, once healed, run a Potenza course for overall pore and texture improvement. Sun protection and soothing care sit between the two, because healing skin is more prone to pigment change.

Which should you choose?

  • Potenza if your concern is pores, rough texture or shallow acne scarring across an area and you want limited downtime.
  • CO2 laser if you have a specific benign lesion you would like removed after assessment.
  • Talk it through if you want stronger resurfacing: downtime, timing around travel and pigment risk all need weighing.
  • Neither is designed for sagging; lifting comes from threads or lifting devices.

Cost

Potenza courses and CO2 treatments are quoted after a 1:1 consultation, since area, depth and number of sessions vary. Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan; ask for a written quote.

Frequently asked questions

Which has less downtime?

Potenza typically has less visible downtime, often a few days of redness. CO2 involves crusting and pinkness that varies with depth.

Can CO2 laser treat pores?

Fractional CO2 can resurface skin, but for pores Doje more often uses Potenza with or without exosome because of the lower downtime.

Is Potenza painful?

Numbing cream is usually applied first, and most people describe heat and pressure. Comfort varies by area and settings.

Can I fly home after CO2 laser?

Short flights are often possible, but healing skin needs care and sun protection. Plan the timing with Dr. Byun if you are travelling.

Are darker skin types suitable?

Both can be considered with care. Pigment risk is assessed individually and settings and aftercare are adjusted.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes. Any lesion is assessed before treatment, and the device choice is made in a 1:1 consultation.
