What “downtime” really means
Downtime is not the same as recovery. Recovery (collagen remodelling, filler integrating, a thread settling into the tissue) continues for weeks or months and is largely invisible. Downtime is the shorter window in which a treatment is visible or limits what you can do: puffiness, bruise marks, pinpoint redness, a feeling of tightness when you smile, or skin that flakes as it renews.
It helps to split it into three kinds. Social downtime: would a colleague notice? Activity downtime: a period without sauna, hard exercise or alcohol. Comfort downtime: tenderness when chewing or sleeping on one side. A treatment can carry very little social downtime yet still ask you to skip the gym for a few days, so ask about all three when you plan.
Typical downtime by treatment type
The ranges below are typical, not promises; individual reactions vary widely.
| Treatment group | What you may notice | Typical visible window |
|---|---|---|
| Botox, Skin Botox | Small injection bumps, occasional pinpoint bruise | Hours; a bruise may need a few days |
| Soft or structural filler | Swelling, tenderness, possible bruising | Often 2–7 days; bruises can last longer |
| Skin boosters (Rejuran, GOURI, Re2O) | Small raised blebs, mild redness | Usually 1–3 days |
| Ultherapy Prime, Thermage, Softwave, ONDA | Flushing, mild swelling or tenderness | Often hours to a few days |
| Potenza, exosome + Potenza | Redness, fine grid marks, dryness | Often 1–3 days |
| CO2 laser | Crusting, peeling, pinkness | Around a week or more, depending on settings |
| Thread lift (실리프팅) | Swelling, tightness, entry-point marks, possible bruising | Often 1–2 weeks to look settled |

Two faces, same treatment, different results.
The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.
How Doje Clinic plans around your downtime
At Doje Clinic, downtime is discussed before anything is booked, because the right plan for someone flying home in three days differs from the right plan for a Seoul resident with a quiet fortnight. In your 1:1 consultation, Dr. Byun Jeik, a surgery specialist trained at Seoul National University Hospital, weighs your facial structure and goals against the time you actually have. Because Doje avoids applying every device as a package, downtime stays proportionate: if one lifting device and a soft filler will do the job, there is no reason to stack extra recovery on top.
Practical levers include treating in stages rather than all at once, choosing a gentler option where the extra gain would be marginal, and using soothing care, oxygen therapy or LED to calm the skin afterwards.
What the first week can look like
For a moderate plan such as a thread lift with filler, many people describe a pattern like this. Yours may differ.
- Day 0: tightness, numbness from local anaesthetic, mild swelling. Cool compresses and sleeping with the head raised help.
- Days 1–3: swelling usually peaks, then starts to fall. Bruises, if any, are most colourful. Soft foods and gentle cleansing.
- Days 4–7: most swelling settles; residual bruising can be covered once the skin has closed (see makeup after treatment).
- Week 2: tightness when yawning or smiling widely fades and the result begins to look natural.
When it is not “normal downtime”
- Pain that increases after the first two to three days instead of easing
- Spreading redness, heat or discharge
- Blanching, mottled or dusky skin after filler
- Any change in vision or a severe headache
Contact the clinic promptly by phone or WhatsApp if any of these occur; do not wait for a scheduled review.
Cost and planning
Downtime does not change how fees work. Costs are quoted after a 1:1 consultation and you can ask for a written quote. Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan, so a staged plan and a one-day plan are priced differently.

Frequently asked questions
How much downtime does Botox have?
Usually very little. Small bumps settle within hours and most people return to normal plans the same day, avoiding pressure, saunas and strenuous exercise for the rest of that day.
Can I go back to work the day after a thread lift?
Many people return to desk work within a few days, but swelling and tightness are often noticeable for about one to two weeks, so schedule important meetings or photos later.
Which treatments have the least downtime?
Helios toning, Aquapeel, oxygen therapy, LED and most energy-based lifting typically leave little visible sign beyond temporary redness or flushing.
Does combining treatments increase downtime?
It can, because swelling from each step adds up. Dr. Byun designs combinations so that downtime stays proportionate to the result you need.
How can I reduce bruising?
Tell the doctor about blood thinners and supplements in advance, avoid alcohol around treatment and use cool compresses afterwards. Never stop prescribed medication without your prescribing doctor's advice.
How long should I stay in Seoul after treatment?
It depends on the plan, from a single day for low-downtime care to around a week for thread lifting. Your consultation sets a realistic minimum.
