Why aftercare matters for threads
A thread lift (실리프팅) places absorbable threads under the skin along designed vectors. Their cones or barbs grip the tissue and reposition it; over the following weeks, the body forms collagen around the threads, helping the tissue settle in its new position. In the early phase the threads are holding tissue that has not yet “set”, so strong or repetitive movement, pressure and heat can work against the result.
At Doje, thread lifts are designed to face shape and sagging pattern, with meticulous technique to avoid lumpiness — the clinic states 17 years of accumulated thread-lift experience. Good aftercare protects that work.
Timeline: what is typical
| When | What you may notice | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Day 0–1 | Tightness, swelling, numbness from anaesthetic, tender entry points | Cold compresses as instructed, rest with head elevated, soft foods |
| Days 2–3 | Swelling often peaks; bruising may appear | Keep sleeping face-up, avoid alcohol and heat |
| Days 4–7 | Swelling gradually eases; tightness on chewing or smiling | Continue gentle care; avoid wide yawning and dental work |
| Weeks 2–4 | Most people look socially presentable; slight irregularities usually soften | Return to exercise and normal routines as advised |
| Months 1–3 | Tissue settles; collagen response continues | Attend any review recommended by the clinic |
These ranges are typical, not guaranteed. The extent of the lift, number of threads and your own healing all matter.

Two faces, same treatment, different results.
The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.
Aftercare checklist: the first two weeks
- Sleep face-up with your head slightly raised; avoid lying on your side or face-down.
- Limit wide mouth movements — big yawns, laughing hard, biting large foods. Choose soft foods for the first days.
- No facial massage, gua sha, facial devices or vigorous rubbing when cleansing.
- Avoid heat: saunas, hot baths, hot yoga and prolonged sun exposure for the period advised.
- Pause strenuous exercise until the clinic says it is suitable to resume.
- Avoid alcohol in the early days; it can increase swelling and bruising.
- Postpone dental treatment that requires prolonged mouth opening; ask the clinic about timing.
- Keep entry points clean and dry as instructed, and do not pick at them.
- Make-up only after the entry points have closed, as advised.
- Take medication only as advised; ask before using anti-inflammatories or supplements.
Normal versus contact-the-clinic
Usually expected: symmetrical swelling, tightness, mild bruising, a pulling sensation when you smile, small dimples near entry points that soften over days, or a faint feeling of the thread under the skin.
Contact the clinic promptly if you notice:
- Pain that increases rather than eases after the first days.
- Swelling clearly worse on one side, or warmth and redness spreading from an entry point.
- Discharge, fever or feeling unwell.
- A thread end poking through the skin, or a lump that persists or worsens.
- Marked asymmetry that does not improve as swelling settles.
For urgent symptoms outside clinic hours, seek local urgent medical care.
Travelling after a thread lift
Many visitors fly home within days. Cabin pressure is not usually a problem, but long flights mean sitting still and sleeping upright, which can be uncomfortable when swollen. Plan treatment early in your stay — see flying after treatment.
Cost
Aftercare advice is part of your treatment. Treatment fees are quoted after the 1:1 consultation according to your plan; Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan.
