What is a lower-face thread lift?

The lower face changes in a characteristic way with age. Tissue from the cheek and the area beside the mouth slides downwards and collects just above the jaw border, forming jowls. The clean line from ear to chin becomes interrupted, the mouth corners can turn down, and marionette lines deepen. In some people, fat beneath the chin adds to the heaviness.

A lower-face thread lift uses fine absorbable threads with anchoring features, introduced through small entry points, to lift that descended tissue back towards where it once sat. Because the lower face moves with speech and chewing, thread choice, placement and anchoring are particularly important here.

The thread design then follows your jaw shape: vectors are planned to restore the jaw border and support the mouth corners, with careful depth to reduce the risk of lumps or dimpling. The number of threads reflects the degree of sagging rather than a fixed protocol.

3. Marking: entry points and vectors drawn with you sitting upright.
4. Treatment: local anaesthesia, then thread placement with symmetry checks.
5. Aftercare: instructions on eating, sleeping and activity, and a follow-up.

Recovery and aftercare

Chewing and wide mouth opening may feel tight or tender for the first week or so. Swelling along the jaw is common for several days, and bruising may occur. Choose softer foods at first, avoid dental appointments and very wide yawning for a short period, and do not massage the area. Avoid sauna, alcohol and vigorous exercise for the first days and sleep on your back with the head raised. Any small dimpling at entry points usually settles with swelling; let the clinic know if it persists.

Can a thread lift get rid of jowls?

It can lift and reduce early to moderate jowls by repositioning tissue. Heavy jowls with excess skin may need a surgical opinion.

Will it remove a double chin?

No. Threads lift tissue but do not remove fat; double-chin liposuction or ONDA may be considered for that.

Is chewing painful afterwards?
