What changes in your 50s
The 50s bring the combined effect of changes that began earlier, plus a hormonal shift for women.
- Skin: after menopause, falling oestrogen is associated with faster collagen loss, especially in the first years, along with dryness, reduced elasticity and slower healing. Men experience gradual change rather than a sudden shift, but skin also thins with age.
- Bone: the eye sockets tend to widen and the upper and lower jaw gradually lose projection, so the framework holding the soft tissue shrinks slightly.
- Fat: deep fat compartments continue to deflate while superficial fat descends, which is why the lower face can look heavier even as the upper face looks hollower.
- Ligaments and SMAS: greater laxity lets cheek and jowl tissue slip past the mandibular ligament, interrupting the jawline.
- Neck: skin laxity and visible platysma bands become more common.
What you may notice
- A jawline that looks scalloped rather than straight
- Lines running down from the mouth corners
- Crepey skin under the eyes and on the neck
- Make-up that sits on dry, uneven texture
- Looking tired or stern at rest

Two faces, same treatment, different results.
The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.
Treatment priorities
- Lower face and jawline: Doje's Jawline program uses a lower-face thread lift, with double-chin liposuction where fat is part of the problem and options such as Radiesse, Ultherapy Prime or ONDA.
- Mouth corners: the Marionette program combines a lower-face thread lift with marionette soft filler.
- Skin quality: thinner skin often responds well to collagen-supporting injectables such as GOURI or Rejuran, with hydration care added selectively.
- Eyes: the Eye program may include an upper-face thread lift, soft filler, Eye Thermage with Softwave or Eye Rejuran.
- Neck: energy devices chosen by depth and laxity.
Realistic expectations
Non-surgical treatment can make a meaningful, natural-looking difference in the 50s, but it does not replicate a surgical facelift where laxity is marked. Dr. Byun Jeik is a surgery specialist trained at Seoul National University Hospital, so he can explain honestly where non-surgical care is likely to help and where its limits lie. See thread lift vs facelift.
Health and healing in this decade
Tell the doctor about all medications and supplements, including blood thinners, and conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure, which can affect bruising and healing. Thinner skin also benefits from gentler settings and careful aftercare, so plans are often spread out rather than concentrated in a single day.
How Doje approaches the 50s
In a 1:1 consultation, Dr. Byun assesses structure, ageing pattern and goals, and combines thread lifting, filler, collagen boosters and energy devices only as far as needed. The aim is a face that looks rested and like you, not a different face.
Cost
Plans are quoted after a 1:1 consultation and you can request a written quote. Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan.

Frequently asked questions
Can non-surgical treatment help jowls in my 50s?
Often, yes, for mild to moderate jowls. A lower-face thread lift and depth-matched energy devices are common options; marked laxity may need a surgical opinion.
Does menopause change how I should be treated?
It often shifts the focus towards skin quality and gentler settings, because skin tends to be drier, thinner and slower to heal.
Are thread lifts effective with thinner skin?
They can be, but technique and thread choice are adjusted to reduce the risk of visible irregularities. Suitability is assessed in person.
Should I use filler to replace lost volume?
Carefully. Large volumes can look heavy; structure and support usually come first, with filler or Radiesse placed where it adds lift.
How can neck laxity be treated?
Energy devices chosen by depth and laxity are commonly used, sometimes alongside skin-quality injectables. Advanced laxity has limits without surgery.
