In your 60s and beyond, bone resorption, deep fat loss, marked skin thinning and ligament laxity combine, so changes are more structural. At Doje Clinic in Cheongdam and Apgujeong, Seoul, non-surgical care focuses on refreshing skin quality and gently supporting key areas, with an honest discussion of where surgery may serve better.

What is different after 60

By the 60s, the changes that began decades earlier have accumulated in every layer, and the deepest layers now play a larger role.

  • Bone: continued resorption around the eye sockets, cheekbones and jaw reduces the scaffold. Temples hollow, eyes can look deeper set and the lower face may appear shorter.
  • Fat: deep fat compartments that once supported the cheeks and eyes are often depleted, while remaining superficial fat has descended.
  • Skin: noticeably thinner, drier and less elastic, with more fragile small vessels, so bruising is easier and healing can be slower.
  • Accumulated sun damage: age spots, rough patches and benign growths become more common. Any new, changing or bleeding spot should be checked by a doctor before cosmetic treatment.
  • Neck: skin laxity and banding are often more prominent than in the face.

Goals that make sense now

The most satisfying plans at this stage aim to look rested, healthy and well cared for rather than years younger. In practice that means improving skin quality and tone, softening the deepest shadows, and supporting a few key points of structure so light falls more evenly across the face. Small, well-placed changes tend to look more natural on mature skin than large corrections.

Two faces, same treatment, different results.

The difference is the design. Tell us your goals and dates; in your 1:1 consultation Dr. Byun Jeik shows you what your face needs, and what it doesn't.

Options that often suit this stage

  • Skin quality: Rejuran, GOURI or Re2O and hydration or soothing care to improve texture, dryness and resilience.
  • Structural support: small amounts of Radiesse or structural filler at key points, such as the temples or cheekbone, to restore shape without heaviness.
  • Energy devices: chosen by depth, sagging, fat and elasticity, with settings adapted for thinner skin. Improvement is often more modest and gradual than in younger skin.
  • Thread lifting: considered selectively. Where laxity is marked, threads have limits.
  • Benign lesions and pigment: CO2 laser or Helios toning after the doctor has assessed each spot.

When surgery may be the better route

If the main concern is heavy skin excess on the neck or jawline, non-surgical treatments may only make a small difference. Dr. Byun Jeik is a surgery specialist trained at Seoul National University Hospital and will say so plainly. A clear explanation of what non-surgical care can and cannot achieve is part of a good consultation. See thread lift vs facelift.

Safety: what to tell the doctor

  • Blood thinners, antiplatelet medicines and supplements such as fish oil or ginkgo
  • Diabetes, blood pressure, heart conditions or immune conditions
  • Previous facial surgery, implants or permanent fillers
  • Any history of skin cancer or slow wound healing

Never stop prescribed medication without advice from the doctor who prescribed it.

Frequently asked questions

Am I too old for a thread lift?

Age alone is not the deciding factor; skin thickness and the degree of laxity are. Where laxity is marked, threads have limits and other options may be discussed.

Can energy devices still help in my 70s?

They can improve firmness and texture modestly, but responses are often slower and smaller than in younger skin, so expectations are set carefully.

Is filler safe at this age?

Filler can be used safely in suitable people, usually in smaller amounts at key support points, after a full health and medication review.

Can age spots be removed?

Many benign spots can be treated with laser after assessment. Any new or changing spot should be checked by a doctor first.

Would a facelift be better for me?

If skin excess is significant, possibly. Dr. Byun will explain honestly where non-surgical care helps and where surgery may achieve more.
