Key facts
| What they are | Eye Thermage: monopolar RF with an eye-specific tip. Softwave: parallel-beam ultrasound heating the mid-dermis. |
|---|---|
| Main difference | Eye Thermage can treat the eyelid skin itself; Softwave works around the eye area — brow, crow’s feet and periorbital skin. |
| How Doje uses them | Paired as “Eye Thermage + Softwave” within the Eye Program, alongside thread, filler and eye-skin options. |
| Typical session | Single session per device, often in one visit; timing varies. |
| Downtime | Usually mild redness or puffiness for a short time; varies. |
| Results timeline | Gradual tightening over weeks to months as collagen remodels. |
| Where | Doje Clinic, Apgujeong Rodeo Station Exit 5, Seoul |
Two energies for one delicate area
The skin around the eyes is thin, mobile and close to the eye itself, so not every lifting device can be used there. Eye Thermage and Softwave are two that can, but they deliver energy differently.
Eye Thermage (아이 써마지) is the eye version of Thermage’s monopolar radiofrequency. A dedicated small tip heats the dermis of the upper and lower eyelids, with protective eye shields in place, to tighten lax, crepey lid skin and encourage new collagen. It is one of the few energy treatments applied directly to the eyelid.
Softwave uses ultrasound delivered as parallel beams that heat a band in the mid-dermis while the surface is cooled. Around the eyes it is typically used on the brow, temple and crow’s-feet region to support a lifted brow line and smoother skin, rather than on the eyelid itself.
How Doje Clinic plans eye-area lifting
Doje chooses energy devices by depth, degree of sagging, fat and elasticity, and explicitly avoids using every device as a package. For the eyes, Dr. Byun Jeik considers where the heaviness comes from:
- Loose, crepey lid skin — Eye Thermage addresses the lid directly.
- A low or heavy brow pressing on the upper lid — Softwave or an upper-face thread lift may matter more.
- Both — the “Eye Thermage + Softwave” option in the Eye Program treats lid and surrounding support together.
- Hollowing or eye bags — not a device problem; filler, skin boosters or other options are discussed instead.
Devices tighten; they do not remove excess skin like eyelid surgery. Dr. Byun is direct about where non-surgical options are likely to help and where they are not.

Eye Thermage vs Softwave side by side
| Eye Thermage | Softwave | |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Monopolar radiofrequency heating | Parallel-beam ultrasound heating with surface cooling |
| Depth / target | Dermis of the upper and lower eyelid | Mid-dermis around brow, temple and crow’s feet |
| Suits | Crepey, mildly hooded lid skin | Brow support, periorbital fine lines |
| Sessions | Often one, with maintenance varying | Often one, with maintenance varying |
| Downtime | Mild puffiness or redness, typically brief | Mild redness, typically brief |
| Onset | Some immediate tightening; more over weeks to months | Gradual over weeks to months |
| Longevity | Varies by skin and age | Varies by skin and age |
When Doje combines them
Hooding often has two components: lid skin that has lost elasticity, and a brow that sits lower than it used to. Treating only the lid can leave the brow weighing on it; treating only the brow can leave crepey lid skin. That is why Doje lists Eye Thermage and Softwave as a paired option — each addresses one component. For some patients a thread lift of the upper face, Eye Rejuran or Re2O Fine is added; for others, a single device is enough.
Which should you choose?
- Eye Thermage if the eyelid skin itself is crepey or mildly hooded.
- Softwave if the brow and the skin around the eyes need support but the lids are reasonably firm.
- Both if hooding comes from lid laxity and brow descent together.
- Neither alone if there is a large amount of excess skin — a surgical opinion may be more appropriate.

Frequently asked questions
Is Eye Thermage safe for the eyelids?
It is designed for the eye area and performed with protective eye shields. Suitability and risks are reviewed in your consultation.
Can Softwave treat the eyelid itself?
Softwave is typically used around the eyes — brow, temple and crow’s feet — rather than directly on the lid.
Will these replace eyelid surgery?
No. They tighten skin and support the brow but do not remove significant excess skin. Dr. Byun will say honestly if surgery would be more suitable.
When will I see results?
Some tightening may be noticed early, but most change develops gradually over weeks to months.
Can I wear contact lenses?
Lenses are removed for Eye Thermage. You will be advised when to put them back in.
Can both be done in one visit?
Yes, they are offered as a paired option in the Eye Program when both are indicated.
