What exosomes are — in plain terms
Exosomes are tiny vesicles that cells release to carry signals to other cells. In aesthetic medicine, exosome-based care (엑소좀) is used with the aim of supporting skin recovery, calming the skin after a procedure and improving overall skin quality. Research in this field is active and evolving, so it is fair to describe exosome care as a supportive treatment rather than one that produces dramatic change on its own.
The key distinction on this page is source:
- Autologous exosome — material prepared from the patient’s own sample. Doje Clinic offers its own autologous exosome care and uses it in the One-Day Program alongside a signature thread lift and oxygen therapy.
- Exosome — a ready-made exosome product prepared in advance by a manufacturer, typically derived from cultured cells.
How Doje Clinic thinks about the choice
Doje’s philosophy is that care needs change as time passes, and that treatments are combined only as far as needed. Exosome care is therefore rarely the headline of a plan; it is usually the part that helps the skin recover from — and get more out of — something else.
The most common pairing is with Potenza, a radiofrequency microneedling device. Microneedling creates temporary micro-channels, and exosome care applied or “pumped” in at that point can reach the skin more effectively than on intact skin. Doje lists both “autologous exosome + Potenza” and “exosome + Potenza pumping” in its Pores & Texture care.
In a 1:1 consultation, Dr. Byun Jeik considers why you are having the treatment, how sensitive your skin is, how quickly you need to return to normal activities and whether a structural procedure is happening the same day. A Mark-View 3D analysis can help track texture and pore changes over time.

Autologous exosome vs exosome side by side
| Autologous exosome | Exosome (ready-made) | |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Prepared from your own sample | Manufactured product, typically from cultured cells |
| Preparation | Requires a preparation step at the visit | Ready to use |
| Typical role | Recovery support within larger plans, e.g. the One-Day Program | Recovery and texture support, often with Potenza pumping |
| Delivery | Applied or delivered after micro-channel or injection treatments | Applied or pumped in after microneedling |
| Sessions | Varies; often linked to the main treatment schedule | Often a short series with Potenza; varies |
| Downtime | Largely that of the paired procedure | Largely that of the paired procedure |
| Onset | Supportive and gradual; varies | Supportive and gradual; varies |
When Doje combines them
The two are not usually “stacked” for the sake of it. More often one is chosen to complement a primary treatment. In the One-Day Program, for example, Doje’s autologous exosome is paired with a signature thread lift and oxygen therapy so that a visitor with limited time leaves with structure and skin recovery addressed in one visit. For texture-focused courses, a ready-made exosome with Potenza pumping can be the more practical routine across repeated sessions.
If your skin is reactive, or you are combining several procedures, Dr. Byun may favour the gentler, simpler option and add more only when it clearly helps.
Which should you choose?
- Autologous exosome may suit you if you prefer care prepared from your own sample, or you are doing the One-Day Program.
- Ready-made exosome may suit a repeat Potenza course for pores and texture, where convenience across sessions matters.
- Either can be considered as recovery support after energy-device or microneedling treatment.
- Neither alone is the right tool for sagging or volume loss — those need lifting or filler first.
Cost
Exosome care is quoted after a 1:1 consultation as part of your overall plan, because it is usually paired with another treatment. Korean non-covered (비급여) aesthetic fees are set per plan; ask for a written quote.

Frequently asked questions
What does autologous mean?
Autologous means the material comes from your own body. At Doje, autologous exosome care is prepared from your own sample, and the process is explained at consultation.
Is exosome care a stand-alone treatment?
It is usually supportive. Doje most often pairs it with Potenza or uses it within the One-Day Program to support recovery and skin quality.
Why combine exosome with Potenza?
Potenza creates temporary micro-channels in the skin, which allows exosome care applied or pumped in afterwards to reach the skin more effectively.
Is there downtime?
Downtime mostly reflects the paired treatment, such as redness after Potenza, which typically settles within days. It varies by person.
Which is stronger?
Neither is simply stronger. The choice depends on your plan, preferences and schedule, and Dr. Byun explains the reasoning in your consultation.
Can visitors to Seoul fit this into a short trip?
Often yes, especially as part of the One-Day Program. Share your travel dates when booking so the plan fits your stay.
